Sapienza Consulting is recruiting an experienced Radio Navigation Engineer to support the GALILEO Ground Mission Segment (GMS) team.

Responsibilities of the Radio Navigation Engineer:

  • To support the GALILEO Ground Mission Segment (GMS) team; in particular, the detailed specific tasks include:
  • Participation to GMS related Integration, Verification and Qualification (IVQ) activities
  • Evaluation of GMS design, with a specific focus on GMS Operations and Operability Improvements, Galileo Services provision, On-line and Off-line Monitoring, System Reporting, Mission Support and Mission
  • Processing, and evolutions of the GMS architecture and design (eg. virtualisation, data centric processing, etc.)
  • Support to GMS engineering activities, as well as Galileo System level engineering activities, such as requirement engineering, change management and baseline evolutions (DCPs/DCNs), assessment of contractor’s RFDs/RFWs;
  • Contribution to GMS and System reviews.
  • To support to Navigation Projects (e.g. EGNOS and GALILEO) and R&D activities in the fields of system and receivers’ performances for Ground Segment receivers and user receivers (multi-frequency and multi-constellation)
  • To support design, implementation, maintenance and operation of Radio Navigation equipment, complex Radio Navigation simulation tools and test facilities for testing features (end-to-end performances, receivers, etc.) in the aforementioned activities.

Profile of the Radio Navigation Engineer:

  • At least a master’s degree in telecommunications and signal processing or electronic engineering, as well as experience in these fields.
  • Specific knowledge on Satellite Radio Navigation Systems, ranging and positioning techniques and technologies, including latest trends in high accuracy and robust PNT
  • Specific and Strong knowledge and experience on the design, development and testing of Radio Navigation receivers (from professional to mass-market), including signal processing, positioning algorithms, Radio Frequency, multi-antenna and sensor hybridisation aspects
  • The specialist shall in particular have several years’ experience (4+) relevant with the GNSS and GALILEO systems and equipment and have good knowledge of Radio Navigation processing, simulation and testing systems.
  • Specific knowledge in the design and testing of Radio Navigation systems and equipment.
  • Strong knowledge on the design of satellite navigation systems, ranging and positioning techniques, RF, signal processing techniques, and digital navigation receivers.
  • Relevant experience with the GNSS1, EGNOS and/or GALILEO systems and equipment and have and good knowledge of Radio Navigation simulation and testing systems.
  • Proven experience in the implementation, maintenance and operation of complex Radio Navigation simulation and test facilities for spacecraft, aircraft, maritime and land mobile applications.
  • Strong experience at user level with satellite navigation receivers and satellite navigation positioning and integrity algorithmsThe following competencies would be an asset:
  • Knowledge on EGNOS Overlay System, including the evolution to EGNOSv3
  • Knowledge on signal quality monitoring;
  • Familiarity with GNSS Android Raw Measurements and carrier phase-based positioning techniques (PPP and RTK)
  • Knowledge on virtualization and data centric processing
  • Some experience of commercial simulation software is desirable.
  • They shall be specialist in the implementation, maintenance and operation of complex Radio Navigation processing, simulation and test facilities for spacecraft, aircraft, maritime and land mobile applications.
  • Candidates must be eligible for security clearance from their national security administration
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of another ESA member-state language is an asset

Responsibilities of the Performance Simulation Engineer

  • Support the verification of mission and system level requirements in the areas of Mission observation and Data products.
  • Support the procurement and acceptance of S4/S5 simulator, Ground Processor Prototype (GPP) and reference processors.
  • Maintain mission performance tools to support the assessment of the relevant industrial development activities.
  • Support the payload team for aspects relevant to instrument performance requirements flow-down and instrument performance verification
  • Follow up with industry the specification, procurement, verification/validation and acceptance activities for Simulator and GPP
  • Acquire working knowledge of tools for test data generation purposes and internal mission level verification activities
  • Verify, re-condition and generate any data at CCSDS level or higher needed to support these activities
  • Support the preparation, execution and analysis of the relevant in-flight cal/val operations during the commissioning phase
  • Interface with EUMETSAT Operational Ground Segment for Requirement definition and reviews of the Ground processor aspects
  • Support cross-verification activities with the operational ground segment against the Ground Processor Prototype and Reference Processors
  • organise, draft the agenda and convene the meetings to achieve the

The principle tasks and responsibilities relevant to horizontal activity include:

  • Review and maintain the standards and documentation in MS Word, Powerpoint and HTML relevant to E2E Mission Performance activity developed within EOP
  • Support and/or develop cross platform sw tools (OSX, Windows, Unix) related to the implementation of these standards
  • Proactively interface with stakeholder within EOP to gather further requirements or evolution of process
  • coordinate the development of internal repository and tools (e.g. redmine websites, sharepoint) to support cooperative working within EOP on these aspects

Profile of the Performance Simulation Engineer

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • At least 4 years of relevant work experience
  • The candidate must possess solid analytical skills
  • A proactive and flexible attitude, together with the capability to critically analyse the work performed by industry in the relevant areas and be able to quickly identify the problems and propose/instigate corrective actions
  • The candidate should also be able to organise and conduct meetings with different parties, assertively presenting results and facilitating convergence on technical aspects
  • The candidate shall demonstrate to be proficient with programming tools and languages relevant to the implementation and maintenance of the simulators and GPPs (e.g. C, C++, Java and Python)
    and at ease with modern build systems
  • Knowledge in managing and configuration of cooperative environment (redmine, confluence, jira, etc) and in manipulating CCSDS data is an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of English, additional knowledge of another ESA member state language is desirable
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU
