Product Manager (Messaging)


Sapienza is looking to recruit an experienced product manager to manage our clients’ family of messaging products. The Product Manager for Messaging manages our clients’ messaging group of products. In this role, the Messaging Product Manager acts as the general manager and a subject matter expert. The Product Manager leads all activities related to the life-cycle management and evolution of messaging products.

Responsibilities of the Product Manager (Messaging)

The Product Manager for Messaging will be responsible for flexibly straddling and integrating work in the domains of sales and business development, engineering, and other products, to include:

  • Determine market size and opportunities for growth for new messaging customers
  • Define, promote, and execute product strategy
  • Support market research, and develop world-class understanding of product positioning, pricing and leverage points for introducing a new category of messaging services to new customers
  • Define the product value proposition, and develop new business cases, for the company
  • Prepare joint sales plans with the sales force to support contracts with MNOs
  • Provide input into the marketing and sales to develop sales collateral and product documentation
  • Meet with MNO customers to share in-depth product knowledge and develop collaborative strategies
  • Meet with messaging partners to persuade them to adapt their products and services to serve our client’s markets
  • Guide engineering development and promotional projects within product line
  • Identify potential ancillary services and feature functions for the product
  • Bottom line results expected – grow revenue and customer base

Profile of the Product Manager (Messaging)

  • BS required (computer science desired) or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years communications wireless industry experience, with 5+ years MNO experience
  • 5+ years of marketing and sales experience in messaging
  • 10+ years Product Management experience required
  • Product Management experience specifically for messaging: 3+ of A2P and 3+ years of P2P
  • Product life cycle management, particularly new messaging product launch
  • Experience working with major phone messaging app developers and communities
  • Knowledge and experience of messaging aggregation and hub players and channels, ideally globally
  • Experience of co-operative marketing and support with MNOs and other partners
  • Knowledge of messaging and comms protocols, platforms, and markets (including RCS, SMPP, SS7, SMS, MMS, cell broadcast, USSD, IP messaging, IP Multimedia Core Network Subsystem, Termination Fees, A2P services)
  • Knowledge of mobile money technology and protocols desired
  • Knowledge and experience with MNO roaming agreements and contracts desired
  • Superior financial and analytical skills
  • In depth understanding of product and software development process

  • Strong negotiations skills
  • Effective problem solving and organizational skills
  • Desire to work in a demanding, high energy environment and comfort for ambiguity
  • International travel required (20-30% time)
  • International experience
  • Must be US citizen
